Bei den Worten METAL ARGENTINO müßte eigentlich jeder, der sich Kult-, True- oder Power Metaller nennt, vor Freude aufheulen. Aber stattdessen ist der südamerikanische Staat totales Terra Incognita bei den teutonischen Warriors of Steel. Dabei ist Argentina eher das Gelobte Metal Land und kann mit gutem Gewissen als Wallfahrtsort für alle Langhaarigen empfohlen werden. Von gutem Hard Rock über typischen HM bis Power und Thrash ist hier alles reichlich vorhanden, was True-Metallern schon vor lauter Vorfreude den Schmalz in den Ohren zusammenlaufen läßt. Man kann echt sagen, daß alle großen Metal Bands hier noch dem alten Stil frönen, und all das Alternative, Industrial und Death Geschmeiß zahlenmäßig zum Glück deutlich unterlegen ist. Allerdings gilt es zuerst eine kleine metallische Hemmschwelle zu überwinden, denn über 90% aller Band singen spanisch und auch sonst spricht fast keiner englisch. Ignoranten, die meinen es gäbe nur eine True Metal Sprache, nämlich Englisch, brauchen hier nicht weiterzulesen.

In Argentinien ist es außerdem so, daß sogar die Metal Jugend den alten Klängen folgt, selbst 15 Jahre alte Hymnen von V8 werden von Chicos, die noch jünger sind, als die Songs selbst, Wort für Wort mitgebrüllt. Kaum einer der älter ist als 25 geht zu Konzerten (selbst bei großen Konzerten mit tausenden Leuten war es schon etwas frustrierend immer der einzige über 30 und mit Haarproblemen zu sein). Die alten Metal Fan Garde ist völlig abgetaucht ins Familienleben oder hat zuviel mit dem täglichen Überlebenskampf zu tun. Nur für große internationalen Bands kommen sie noch mal aus ihren Löchern gekrochen, um die mittlerweile ergraute Matte in der ersten Reihe zu schütteln. In jeder größeren Stadt in Argentinien sieht man Horden von Langhaarigen mit Metal Shirts, selbst der südlichsten Ort der Welt, Ushuaia auf Feuerland, wird von ihnen heimgesucht. Leider ist Argentinien in Südamerika wie eine isolierte Metal Insel, in den umgebenden Staaten wie z. B. in Brasilien und in Chile ruled hauptsächlich Geknüppel und Gegrunze.

Aber die Argies sind sowieso keine typischen Südamerikaner, sie sind viel weniger Latino. Wie es so viele Leute schaffen, bei der Sonne so bleichgesichtig zu bleiben, ist mir ein Rätsel. Überall wird sich zur Begrüßung abgeknutscht - selbst zwischen Kerlen! Dazu wollen die Frauen im Zentrum von Buenos Aires anscheinend einen Weltrekord in der Kürze ihrer Röcke aufstellen. Aber die halten nicht was sie zu versprechen scheinen, wenn sich einer ranmacht, werden sie sehr schnell katholisch. Natürlich gibt's dort viel mehr Armut und Probleme, als bei uns, aber auch dick zur Schau gestellten Reichtum. Das zusammengewucherte Gebilde Buenos Aires, mit seinen 10 Millionen Leuten, müßte eigentlich Malo Aires heißen (statt gute Luft, schlechte Luft). Der laute, tierisch stinkende Verkehr, der sich durch die Straßen wälzt, ist unglaublich. Sowas ist natürlich die richtige Brutstätte für harte Musik, und deshalb sind die Texte der meisten Bands auch sehr sozialkritisch.
Es wird sehr auf die Lyrics geachtet, und einige Bands werden trotz geiler Musik wegen ihrer Texte kritisiert. Die Live Konzerte sind irgendwie noch interessanter als bei uns, wo die Fans vielleicht mal einen von den englischen Refrains mitsingen. Die Argies hingegen singen von Anfang bis Ende, jede Zeile lauthals mit, und feiern dabei völlig ab, von der Bühne bis ganz hinten. Es war ein unheimliches Glücksgefühl so etwas miterleben zu dürfen. Jungs da gibt`s nur eins, ab zum Spanischkurs und statt zum x-ten Mal die tote Metal Leiche USA sinnlos abzugrasen, rüber in die Pampa! Übrigens ist in Argentinien auch deutscher Metal total angesagt. Von US -oder englischen Bands sind fast nur die ganz großen bekannt, aber von Alemanien kennt man die obskursten Truppen, und vieles wird sofort lizensiert. Vielleicht mögen sie einfach auch das Mitschunkeln zum Tralala-Teutonen-Metal.... wenn man schon den Text nicht versteht. Bands aus dem Mutterland ihrer Sprache, Spanien, waren früher viele bekannt, und BARON ROJO tourte sogar dort. Völlig unverständlich ist, dass sie von den heutigen Superbands wie TIERRA SANTA; AVALANCH u.s.w. absolut gar nichts kennen!! Deutschland über alles, oder was??? Hier aber nun die Geschichte des Metal Pesado Argentino und seinem Movimiento, soweit ich sie mit Vinyl, CD's, Demos, Infos und Gesprächen zusammenklauben konnte.

Geschichte

Schon in den 70er Jahren gab es gute Rock Bands, die es auch schon mal härter anklingen ließen, als da wären VOX DEI, PESCADO RABIOSO, PLUS, PAPPOS BLUES, POLIFEMO u.a. Im Land herrschte eine Militärdiktatur, die Rock Musik und lange Haare genauso ungern sah, wie das Regime des Erich H. Und dann kam Anfang der 80er auch noch die richtig harte Welle bis Argentinien. Die schlechten "nördlichen" Einflüsse wurden hereingelassen, denn schließlich wollte man Geschäfte machen. Im Fernsehen wurde die Sendung "Musica Prohibida Para Mayores" (Musik verboten für Alte) ausgestrahlt. Hier konnten die angehenden Metal Fans zwischen lauter Pop Schrott, Clips von KISS, AC-DC, VAN HALEN, u.a., sehen, aber alles ohne jeden Kommentar und Infos. Erste ausländische Bands wie QUEEN und POLICE tauchten auf. Unsere heiß geliebten Scheiben von AC/DC, MAIDEN, PRIEST, usw. erschienen auch als argentinische Pressungen. Aber die Cover mussten nach einer Vorschrift völlig in spanisch übersetzt werden, was auf unsere Augen natürlich exotisch wirkt: Aus "Number Of The Beast" wurde flugs "El Numero De La Bestia". Die argentinischen Fans wollten damals zwar "das Echte", aber Importe waren zu teuer. Wie auch bei uns in dieser Zeit gab's nur Pop Zeitschriften mit gelegentlichen Metal Berichten.
Der bekannteste argentinische Blues und Rock Gitarrist Pappo (Norberto Napolitano) ging 1980 nach England und Deutschland (spielte im "Top 10" in Hamburg). Als er wieder nach Hause kam, war er angesteckt vom Metal Virus (Chains, Leather und Spikes sind angesagt), und gründet RIFF, die erste Hard Rock Band in Argentinien, die Mittlerweile einen legendären Status hat. Ende 1980 gibt's deren erste Scheibe "Ruedas De Metal" (Wheels of Steel - Metal Räder) und 1981 ihre zweite "Macadem 3..2..1..0". Auf ihren Konzerten werden sie total abgefeiert.

1982 brechen die Militärs, zur Ablenkung von Problemen und zunehmenden Protesten den Falkland Krieg gegen England vom Zaun. Eine riesengroße Nationalismuswelle erfaßt, wie erhofft, das Land, und in den Medien wird der Kampf gegen Hippies, Kommunisten und Subversive noch stärker angeheizt. Schlechte Zeiten für langhaarige Metal Fans. Die Militärs organisieren auf dem Höhepunkt des Krieges ein "Festival De La Solidaridad". Als Eintritt sollen Sachen und Lebensmittel für die Soldaten gespendet werden. Viele Rock und Pop Bands spielen dort auf, auch Pappo spielt mit der Band DULCE 16 als Gast mit. Nach diesem Konzert wird Rock Musik mehr akzeptiert. Aber in der Öffentlichkeit wird es immer antiamerikanischer (die angeblichen Freunde Argentiniens unterstützten im Krieg den englischen Gegner).
1982 kommt die dritte RIFF LP heraus, und sie spielen auf dem Buenos Aires Rock Festival, wo es zu vielen Zusammenstößen mit der Polizei kommt, die alles zusammenknüppelt. Als die Feuerwehr Wasserwerfer einsetzt wird reichlich Equipment zerstört. Nachdem die Militärs ihren Krieg verloren und über 600 Soldaten geopfert haben, werden sie von der ersten demokratischen Regierung hinweggefegt. Doch diese wird zwar hoffnungsvoll begrüßt, bringt aber nicht viel für den kleinen Mann. 1983 wurde zu einem ziemlich harten (aber erfolgreichen) Jahr im Heavy Bereich. RIFF holten einen extra Sänger, was bei dem mittelmäßigen Gesang von Pappo gar nicht so schlecht war. Leider war er bei den Fans sehr unbeliebt (Sein Name ist C.P. Peyronel. Er gründet später die Weich- Ei Band TARZAN, die in Spanien und Argentinien gross gepusht wurden). Dazu kündigen sie noch an, daß Chains & Leather passé sind und Keyboards angesagt. Mit dem Frust über die ausbleibende Verbesserung der Lebenslage, kommt es im Dezember '83 auf dem Festival im Ferrocaril Stadion zu schweren Ausschreitungen der Fans. Das Publikum stürmt sogar die Bühne und schlägt das Equipment kurz und klein. Das war nicht nur das Ende des Festivals, sondern auch das von RIFF, denn Pappo hat die Schnauze voll und löst die Band auf. Auch die Medien schießen sich wieder voll auf die "dreckigen Horden von Faulpelzen und Drogenabhängigen in den Rock Konzerten" ein, die die "saubere Jugend" verderben. Aber 1983 steht schon eine andere Gruppe, auf dem Parkett, auf die diese Begriffe viel besser passen werden - V8.

Seit einigen Jahren machten diese den Untergrund unsicher, und 1983 erscheint ihre Debüt-LP " Luchandos Por Metal" (Kämpfen für den Metal), die für die argentinische Szene die ewigen Hymnen "Destruccion" und "Brigadas Metallicas" enthält und der Band bis heute gottähnlichen Status einbringt. Ihre Konzerte werden noch berüchtigter bei Medien und Obrigkeit, aber die Bewegung ist nun nicht mehr aufzuhalten. 1983 kommt auch die erste ausländische Hard Rock Band VAN HALEN live nach Argentinien (die als holländische Band verkauft werden!). KISS sind auch angekündigt und die Fans fiebern dem Auftritt der Maskierten mit Spannung entgegen. Aber auf der antiamerikanischen Welle reitet auch eine Terroristengruppe, das "Kommando Glacchno" (Name des ersten Falklandtoten), die dieser "englischen, drogenabhängigen, homosexuellen" (sic) Band des Kampf angesagt hat. Nachdem diese Verwirrten eine Autobombe zündeten, sagten KISS ab. Das alles wird von Wellen von Diskussionen in den Medien begleitet, in der gegen Heavy Metal und Anglo Einflüsse gehetzt wird. Spaniens erfolgreichste Metal Band BARON ROJO dagegen kann mit Riesenerfolg ohne Probleme Ende '83 eine Stadionshow mit V8 spielen. Im selben Jahr gibt's auch die spezielle Radio Sendung "Cuero Pesado" (schweres Leder), die in- und ausländische Bands präsentiert. Erste echte Heavy Läden machen auf und Video Bars mit Heavy Videos. Da Importe für die meisten kaum zu bezahlen sind, wird reichlich auf Kassetten kopiert, und der bis heute bestehende Sonntags Plattenmarkt im Park Rivadavia entwickelt sich (mit Unmassen von "Pirata" Kassetten). Das erste richtige Magazin "METAL" kommt heraus.

Ab 1984 sind ständig größere Konzerte und Festivals. Das erste grosse ist das "Festival de primavera", welches alle Bands versammelt, die damals Rang und namen hatten: V8; BLOKE; HELLION; THOR; DHAK; HANGAR u.s.w. Einige dieser Bands, die nur kurz bestehen, bringen 1984/85 ihre Platten heraus. Diese wirklich guten und kultigen Scheiben von BLOKE, HELLION; BUNKER und THOR sind heute fast vergessen. Die Szene war noch zu klein für so viele Acts und die Verkäufe rentierten sich nicht, also wurden die Bands wieder gedroppt und gingen danach in der Versenkung unter. Die zweite LP von V8, 1984, kann trotz vieler bandinterner Probleme den Kultstatus der Gruppe ausbauen. Das "Rock in Rio Festival 1985" hinterläßt schweren Eindruck auch in Argentinien. Aber 1986/87 ist trotzdem eine schlechte Zeit für argentinische Metal Bands. Die letzte V8 LP erscheint und der Markt wird von Punk, Ska und Reggea überschwemmt. Echte Metal Bands krebsen nur im Untergrund herum und bekommen keinen Plattenvertrag. Nur die AOR- Poserwelle wird von den Plattenfirmen gepuscht. Bands wie VITICO, LA TORRE, JAF, CHYCLE, BOX werden gesignt (alles nicht True Metal kompatibel). Die einzig wirklich gute Band aus dem Genre ALAKRAN, die schon ab 1986 Live abräumen, wurde erst 1989 gesignt. Aber ab 1988 geht es langsam aufwärts, härteren Bands wird wieder eine Chance gegeben. KAMIKAZE und RATA BLANCA geben ihr Debüt, die beide sehr erfolgreich werden (letztere sind bis heute aktiv und sind trotzdem sie Metal spielen mittlerweile DIE Rock Band Argentiniens!) Zu dieser Zeit rast eine Welle der Hyperinflation über das Land, fast so schlimm, wie bei uns in den 20er Jahren. Ehe Magazinmacher, Plattenfirmen und Bands ihr Geld reinbekommen, ist es schon nix mehr wert. Zur schlimmsten Zeit werden die Preise mehrmals täglich erhöht (1989 - Inflation: 30.000%!!).

1989 wird endlich der verwaiste Thron von V8 wieder besetzt. Deren Bassist Ricardo Iorio, der sich immer mehr zum Metal Idol entwickelt, hat neue Mitstreiter versammelt und gemeinsam werden zu den neuen Göttern: HERMETICA. Die ganze Metal Szene ist wieder sehr aktiv und erfolgreich, viele Festivals und Konzerte finden statt. 1990 veröffentlichen 2 neue starke Bands ihre Debüt-Alben - LETHAL und HORCAS (Ein Metal Knaller vor dem Herrn). Sogar die alten RIFF reformieren sich, können aber mit ihrem altbackenen Hard Rock nicht mehr viel reißen. RATA BLANCA bekommen mit ihrem zweiten Album als erste argentinische Metal Band Gold. HERMETICA steigt 1991 mit ihrem zweiten Werk genauso in den goldenen Olymp. Im selben Jahr füllen RATA BLANCA als erste einheimische Band allein ein ganzes Stadion. Durch einen Auftritt in einem "Baillante" Club, wo Latino Tropical Musik spielt und getanzt wird, gewinnen sie viele neue Käufer, die nur ihre Schnulze "Mujer Amante" hören wollen. Das ist zwar ein geschäftlicher Erfolg , aber ihre "Die Hard" Metal Fans verlieren sie damit. 1991 gibt`s auch das Debüt der neuen Band EL DRAGON, mit ihren kultigen Mix von Power Metal mit Keyboards. 1992 bringt eine Welle von internationalen Bands, die es für kleinere einheimische Live Bands schwer machen. Auf einer Doppel LP "Metal Argentino" werden auch einmal Bands aus dem ganzen Land vorgestellt (sonst sind alle Bands aus Buenos Aires und Umgebung). 1992 ist auch das schlagartige Ende der Vinyl LP (irgendwelche Sammleredition usw. gibt's hier nicht mehr, wahrscheinlich haben sie ihr einziges Vinyl Werk gesprengt). Damit gibt's auch die kultigen Argentinien Pressungen internationaler Bands nicht mehr, da die CD's jetzt nur noch mit englischer Beschriftung kommen (Hallo Arno, Andy und Co. - hier braucht ihr dann nicht mehr weiterlesen). Neue Bands sind die Power Metaller TREN LOCO und die punkig angehauchte ANIMAL. 1993 bringt die Debüts zweier neuer geiler Bands: LOGOS und NEPAL (die aber schon seit 1983 geniale Demos rausbrachten). 1993 gibt`s die erste Metal Show im TV, "Much Music Power 30", ein Ableger aus Kanada (läuft bis 1997). Selbst von noch so kleinen Demo Bands werden nun Video Clips gedreht. Metal Radio Sendungen gibt es bis heute reichlich, auch in den abgelegensten Ecken. 1994 bringt erstmal das Ende der beiden größten Metal Bands. RATA BLANCA bringen für lange Zeit ihre letzte Scheibe heraus und HERMETICA bricht total auseinander. Aus deren Trümmern entstehen 1995 zwei neue Truppen, die schnell zu den Größten in der Szene werden. Iorio gründet ALMAFUERTE und die anderen Drei firmieren nun unter dem Namen MALON.

1996 gibt es eine Ausstellung "30 Jahr Rock Argentino" in der auch alle Heavy Bands eine Tafel erhalten und die Plattencover aushängen, dazu natürlich einige Reliquen, wie z. B. Instrumente und Klamotten (Man stelle sich sowas mal bei uns vor, mit den Spandex von Jabs und den Tarnklamotten von Udo). Die recht neue Firma Nems Records nimmt viele der guten Bands unter Vertrag (HORCAS, NEPAL, AZEROTH usw.) und lizensiert viele Scheiben aus Deutschland (z.B. BLIND GUARDIAN, EDGUY). Seit einigen Jahren gibt es auch ein Festival der Superlative, genannt "Metal Rock Festival"an dem in 2 Tagen ein Dutzend einheimische Bands spielt. Ende der 90er sind HORCAS die beliebteste Band in der Szene, aber nach dem Selbstmord von Gitarrist Osvaldo Civile verlieren sie viel an Boden, und IMPERIO steht oben auf der Beliebtheitsskala. Im Jahr 2000 taucht aber RATA BLANCA wieder auf, und sie sind mittlerweile ein Top Act von internationalen Dimensionen, und touren ganz Süd - und Nordamerika hoch und runter. IMPERIO haben sich 2001 leider aufgelöst. Im Januar 2001 spielten IRON MAIDEN vor 35 000 Fans. Sie werden zwar im ganzen Land vergöttert, und die Massen feierten sie total ab, als sie aber bei "The Trooper" die englische Fahne schwingen kommt es zum nationalistischen Eklat! Tausende brüllen "Maradona" (nach dem Motto wir haben die besseren Fussballer) und "Malvinas" (spanischer Name für die Falkland Inseln, deren Besitz durch die Briten weiter wie ein Stachel im Fleisch jedes Argentiniers ist!). Diese Aktion wird sicher an dem gottgleichen Status von MAIDEN im Land gesägt haben! Ende 2001 gab es auch das "Festival Metalico de Mercosur" (Mercosur ist der wirtschaftliche Zusammenschluss von Argentinien, Brasilien und Uruguay), bei denen ANGRA; JEZABEL; LÖRIHEN; BETO VAZQUEZ und viele andere spielen.

In den letzten Jahren tauchen immer mehr Eigenpressungen von teils echt guten Bands mit sehr geringen Auflagen (meist unter 500 Stück) auf und es ist eine ganze Welle gewoden, und ich sprach noch mit vielen, die gerade "eine in der Mache" haben. Es herrschte also eine richtige Metal-Aufbruchstimmung. Vielleicht könnte man diese Zeit Ende der 90er ja die NODMA taufen, die "Nueva Ola De Metal Argentino". International ist aber der Durchbruch ausgeblieben! Schuld daran war auch die Wirtschaft, die mit ihrem künstlichen 1 : 1 Umtausch zum US $ alles für Ausländer extrem verteuert hat. Neue CD's der Companies kosteten 20 - 22 USD, und Eigenpressungen ca. 15 USD. Der künstliche Kurs hat auch die eigene Wirtschaft völlig zerstört, da Importe ja soo billig waren! Nun ist Anfang 2002 dieses Kartenhaus mit einem Knall zusammengefallen und der Peso hat nur noch ein Drittel, bis ein Viertel des Wertes!! Alle Importe verteuern sich dementsprechend, und das ganze Land steht vor dem Kollaps! Auf die Metal Szene hat das natürlich auch einen Einfluss! Instrumente, Grundstoffe für die CD Herstellung u.s.w. kosten nun das vierfache, und kaum einer kann sich das noch leisten! Für Leute im Ausland sind nun vor dem Crash hergestellte CDs viel billiger (also international "normal"), aber die neue hergestellten Alben sind wieder teurer! Für Einheimische sind die CDs nun aber kaum noch zu bezahlen, und Importe unerschwinglich! Der Zeitschriftenmarkt ist total zusammengebrochen und alle Metal Verkaufsmagazine wurden eingestellt!! Wie es überhaupt weitergehen wird ist noch völlig unklar, und das Land schlingert nun seit einigen Jahren vor sich hin und die Wirtschaft kann vielleicht noch mehr zusammenbrechen!
Es gibt aber noch einige leuchtende Beispiele, dass die Szene sich nicht unterkriegen lässt! Viele alte Bands wie RATA BLANCA, MALON und ALAKRAN sind wieder zusammen und bringen neue Alben heraus. Auch gibt es immer noch viele Konzerte. Ein herausragendes Ereigniss ist das "Cumbre de Metal" Festival, welches von der alten Szenelagende Pocho Metalico auf die Beine gestellt wird! Auch werden mit internationaler Hilfe alte Perlen wieder herausgebracht! Das BLOKE Album erschien auf CD, und altes Material von DHAK, RETROSATAN, EL DRAGON, LAS BRUJAS und viele andere werden auf Vinyl und CD von "Dies Irae" in Brasilien veröffentlicht!
Die Lage besonders in den abgelegeneren Gegenden ist teils katastrophal, und Menschen in diesem einst reichen Land müssen Hunger leiden! Mittlerweile gibt es deswegen immer mehr Benefiz Konzerte, in denen statt mit Geld, mit Lebensmitteln bezahlt wird! Für ein Kilo Futter gibt es dann ein Konzert zu sehen, und die Sachen werden an die Armen verteilt (siehe nächsten Flyer)! Als ob diese Dauerkriese nicht genug wäre, trifft es manche arme Gegenden noch extra hart mit Dürre und anderen Katastrophen! In Santa Fe, im Norden gibt es die wohl fanatischsten Metal Fans Argentiniens, die schon immer Probleme hatten Geld für die nötigsten Sachen zusammenzubekommen. Nun wurden diese im April 2003 auch noch von einer Flut, die mitten durch den Ort ging heimgesucht! Es gab Tote, und viele Menschen verloren alle Habe, inclusive vieler Metaleros, die ihre ganzen Instrumente, CDs und anderes verloren! Das "Metalica" Fanzine rief dannach zu Spenden von CDs, Shirts und anderen Metal Utensilien auf, nach dem Motto: "...mit wenig Essen kann ein Metaller leben, aber nicht ohne Musik"!
Im Jahre 2004 gab es eine riesige Enttäuschung für die Fans in Argentinien, als Metallica Konzerte ankündigte, und 60 000 Karten verkaufte, und dann absagte! Auch spielte IRON MAIDEN wieder, diesmal liessen sie ihre britische Fahne aber zu Hause, und es gab keine Fan Proteste!
Im Dezember 2004 folgte die nächste grosse Katastrophe! Bei einem Konzert der Rock Band LOS CALLEJEROS kam es zu einem Grossbrand mit 200 Toten!!! Ich habe auch schon selbt gesehen, wie verrückte Jugendliche, sogenennte "bengalische Feuerkerzen" gezündet haben (die eigentich in Seenot auf dem Meer benutzt werden)! Die Dinger erzeugen eine lange Stichflamme und jede Menge Rauch. Damit zündete jemand die verkleidete Hallendecke an! Das Verhängniss nahm aber vor allem seinen Lauf, weil alle Notausgänge verriegelt waren! Dazu muss man wissen, dass die vielen Jugendlichen die kein Geld für Konzerte haben, sich darauf spezialisiert hatten, mit Gewalt diese Türen aufzuhebeln und in grossen Gruppen in die Hallen zu stürmen! Dannach gingen die Club Besitzer dazu über alles fest zu verriegeln, und die Behörden kümmerten sich nicht darum. Nach dem Unglück wollte die Stadt plötzlich Härte zeigen, und kurzerhand wurden jegliche Konzerte verboten, selbst Tango!! Das Konzertleben in Buenos Aires kam total zum erliegen, da nun alles "überprüft" werden musste, was Monate dauerte! Dabei wurden gleich noch alle anderen nicht ganz legalen Sachen verboten, wie der grosse Sonntagsmarkt im Parque Centenario (wo auch viele Bootlegs verkauft werden)! Da viele kleine Bands von den Konzerten leben, ging das Totalverbot an die Substanz, und hätte das Aus für etliche Gruppen bedeutet. Seit März 2005 scheint es aber wieder Konzerte zu geben! Viele kleine Läden bleiben aber weiter zu, und die wenigen offenen und grossen Läden nutzen die Situation jetzt aus, um die Eintrittspreise zu erhöhen! Jetzt werden die Konzerte für noch mehr Leute unerschwinglich. Die Preise für internationale Bands sind sowieso schon jenseits von gut und böse. Die ca 70 Peso für solche Veranstaltungen sind für viele einfache Leute schon ein halber Monatslohn!
Im Februar 2005 starb auch Pappo, der Gitarrist von RIFF (und vielen anderen Bands) bei einem Autounfall. Damit ist der wichtigste harte Rock Musiker Argentiniens tot, und RIFF ist ohne ihn auch gestorben!
Also, die Szene lebt, und kann jede Unterstützung gebrauchen! Es gilt weiter, dass dieses True Metal Land isoliert ist wie eine Insel, umgeben vom grunzenden und grindenden Landmassen und dem MTV Meer, deren moderneren (und "fortschrittlichen") Wellen unerbittlich gegen die noch eisernen Gestaden anstürmen. Also ihr Deutschen Eichen, die ihr fest gegen den Trend Wind steht, helft den einsamen kämpfenden Metal Gauchos. Da die CDs nach dem Wirtschaftscrash mitlerweile günstiger sind, sollte jeder weltoffene Metaller mal ein Ohr riskieren, und Material von dort unten kaufen! Mit dem ordern ist es aber echt schwierig, Geld im Brief zu schicken ist viel zu unsicher! Mittlerweile haben ja auch einige Mailorders Argentiien Metal im Angebot. Bei mir gibt es aber nun wohl die beste Auswahl an Latino Metal weltweit. Es melden sich schon einige Leute aus den Ländern selbst, da sie die Sachen dort in der Provinz nicht bekommen! Altes Vinyl wird von Jahr zu Jahr knapper und teurer, und dort sind die Preise nicht gefallen, da jeder dafür Dollar verlangt!

Bands

In der Aufstellung sind nicht alle Live Scheiben aufgeführt, da die speziell bei RIFF und HERMETICA in unglaublicher Anzahl herauskamen. Totale Weichspülerbands, wie ALLIANZA, LA TORRE, JAF, VITICO, TARZAN usw. lasse ich ebenso weg, wie totales Geholze von ESCABIOS VREDE, VIBRION, KARMA, usw. Ich hoffe, an Vinyl ziemlich komplett zu sein und an CD's auch ca. 90% aufzählen zu können. Besonders aus anderen Städten als Buenos Aires ist es fast unmöglich etwas zu bekommen, außer man fährt selbst dorthin. Es folgt eine Aufstellung aller Bands mit allen Alben, die mir bekannt sind. In Klammern Übersetzung der Bandnamen und Plattentitel soweit sie unverständlich sind.
  

ARGENTINE METAL

The overall knowledge, about Metal in Argentina is a very sad chapter in Metal history! All over the world Metal fans are complaining that their beloved music is receding. Only in Germany and Greece the scene seems to be still in good condition, but even the maniacs here say everything was better in the old days. But here is this country Argentina with a very active scene, where the good old traditional Metal is ruling, and nobody in other countries know about it. In one thing they are even ahead of us, and this is the enthusiasm of the youth. Here in Europe most of the Metal fans are over 25 now and many over 30. Over there most of them are around 15 to 18 years old, and very dedicated to traditional Metal. Death, Grind, Alternative and all this crap is more in the underground, and most of the successful bands play old style Metal or Thrash. One other big difference is, that most bands sing in their native tongue, in Spanish. Almost nobody in this country speaks English including the musicians. The lyrics are extremely important there, and bands get critizised because of their lyrics, even when their music is really good. In concerts it is a pleasure to see the young guys moshing and singing every word together with the bands. Even the songs of absolutely underground band s are known by the fans and they sing them together. The argentine Metal youth know even old hymns from those hero bands like V8 which were written 20 years ago, and are much older then those fans. The typical German style Metal a la HELLOWEEN is most popular, and they know the strangest underground bands from Germany. Many German or German sounding bands are released by argentine labels. From typical US Metal bands only the big ones are known. Very strange is, that today from Spain, the motherland of their language nothing is known. In the old times they licensed many Spanish bands, and BARON ROJO toured several times. From the great new bands like TIERRA SANTA; AVALANCH; SARATOGA and others, they don`t know anything! The Argentines are not typical Latin American. Most of them feel and look more European. They have many roots to Italy and other European countries. The Metal scene is mostly concentrated around the 10 million people city of Buenos Aires and its suburbs. This huge concentration of people, crazy traffic, pollution, dirt, and crime is the breeding ground for tons of Metal bands. In the country side there are also Metal bands, and you could find long haired fans till the very far south, but no band from outside Buenos Aires was ever able to release a record with a label.

History

The history of the "Metal Pesado" started in the 70s. At this time they had already good local Rock bands like VOX DEI; PESCADO RABIOSO; PAPPOS BLUES; POLIFEMO and others. The country was ruled by a military dictatorship, that hated Rock music and long hair. Beginning of the 80s the first Metal sounds came into the country, records were released, and radio and TV played international Rock bands. The TV Show "Musica prohibida para mayores" (Music forbidden for the elder!!) showed some clips from KISS; AC-DC; VAN HALEN and others. The argentine record releases of international bands all came out with titles translated into Spanish (because there was a law to do it), which makes them interesting for collectors. For example "Number of the beast" became "El numero de la bestia" and "Love gun" was translated into "Revolver de amor"!!!

1981 the first argentine Hard Rock album from the band RIFF was released, and 1982 their second album followed. At this time tensions with England were very high, and in 1982 there was a war on the Falkland Islands. In the country was propaganda and action against Hippies, Communists and Subversives, bad time for long haired Metal fans! After the regime lost this war and the live of 600 soldiers, the dictators got blown away. The change to democracy brought not much for the people, and the media was still fighting against Rock music and Anglo influences. 1983 played VAN HALEN but this was only possible because they told them they were a band from Holland!! When KISS planned to play in the same year there was big propaganda against this "English, drug addicted and homosexual band" (sic), and a terrorist organization blew a car bomb and threatened to plant one into the stadium too, so KISS cancelled the date. BARON ROJO from Spain came after that and played without any problems.
End of 83 was a big festival with RIFF in the "Ferrocaril" stadium. After the frustration about the failed political and economic improvements, and after RIFF declared they will not use chains and leather anymore and will use more keyboards there were big riots and they even stormed the stage and destroyed the equipment! This was the end of the festival and the end of RIFF as they split up after that. In the press there was a big uproar after that against the "Dirty hordes of lazybones and drug addicted in Rock concerts" But there was already another band who was fitting the description perfectly: V8 released in 1983 the first real Metal record in Argentina: "Luchando por el Metal" (Fighting for the Metal). This contains the eternal Metal hymns of Argentina "Brigadas Metallicas" and "Destruccion". The same year saw also the light of the first real Metal radio show "Cuero pesado" (Heavy leather). The first pure Metal shops opened and video bars showed Metal videos. Prices for imported records were very high and that is why a big "Pirata" (Bootleg) business started. A special market for that and any kind of records still exists since this time every Sunday in the Park Rivadavia. The magazine "Metal" came out, and there were more and more festivals.

1984/85 saw a small wave of good bands that existed only short time. This really good records from BLOKE; THOR; HELLION and BUNKER are today almost forgotten. The scene at this time was may be still too small and they could not sell enough to survive. Those records are very rare today, as they sold most of them as cassette and only very little as vinyl, and Argentines do not treat their records very well, so most of those you find are in very bad shape! All this 4 bands played on the first big event, the "Festival de primavera" in 1984, which included also V8; DHAK; HANGAR and others. V8 released in 1984 their second album and got higher onto the Metal Olympus. The "Rock in Rio" mega festival in 1985 impressed also a lot of people in Argentina, but the next years were not very good for real Metal. V8 split up after their third album, and a wave of Punk, Reggea, Ska flooded the market. Only Poser bands got a chance and records from VITICO; TARZEN; LA TORRE; JAF; CHYCLE; BOXER and more were released. The only good and very active band from this genre ALAKRAN had to wait till 1989 to release an album. After 1988 times for Metal got slowly better and the debutes of KAMIKAZE and RATA BLANCA came out. Both got really big , the latter one became the biggest Hard Rock band ever of Argentina. At this time was a hyper inflation in the country (1989 30000%!!). The prices had to be increased several times a day, and till musicians , record labels and magazine makers got their money it was nothing worth anymore. In 1989 the empty Metal throne got occupied again. The bass player from V8 together with new members founded HERMETICA and their first album hit the scene like a bomb. The scene got a big push, and there were more and more concerts and festivals. 1990 came the debuts of 2 great new bands, LETHAL and HORCAS (becoming the best Metal band). Even the old RIFF reunited, but there was not much interest anymore for their old style Hard Rock. RATA BLANCA got 1990 as first Argentine band a golden record, and was filling a whole stadium. After they played in a "Baillante" club where Latino tropical music is played they got known everywhere. They sold a lot, but most people were only interested in their slow song "Mujer amante". With that move they lost a lot of their real Metal fans. Even HERMETICA got with their second album 1991 a golden record. The new band EL DRAGON released their first album with an interesting mix of Power Metal and keyboards.

Beginning of the 90s brought of course Grunge and other "progressive" waves. With this kind of music the band A.N.I.M.A.L. became very big, and known all over Latin America. 1992 is the end of vinyl records in Argentina. It was like they blew up their only vinyl factory. There are no collectors editions or anything like this. It is also the end of this interesting argentine pressings of international bands, as the CD booklets are now all written in English, like everywhere. Many international bands came now to play, making it difficult for the local bands. There was the release of the double album "Metal Argentino" with many bands from the interior, and the first album of TREN LOCO. 1993 is the year of the first real Metal show in TV, "Much Music Power 30" (till 1997), and even the smallest demo bands made now video clips. In the same year the first records of LOGOS and NEPAL were sold. 1994 brought the end of the Metal Gods HERMETICA, but out of the ashes of them in 1995 came 2 new great bands ALMAFUERTE and MALON. In 1996 was a big exhibition "30 years of Rock in Argentina", where every record was displayed, plus many other things from the bands. I can not imagine a exhibition like this in other countries. Since some years there is now a great annual festival called "Metal Rock", only with local bands, more then 10 on 2 days. This helps the scene a lot.
End of the 90s, after RATA BLANCA disappeared, HORCAS became the most popular band, but after their leader Osvaldo Civile committed suicide, they lost their rank to IMPERIO (which split recently). But now since 2000 RATA BLANCA came back, and still is THE biggest Rock act in the country! They toured up and down from the US till Argentina, and had great success. In January 2001 IRON MAIDEN played in Argentina, in front of 35 000 fans. They are the most popular Metal band in the whole country, and the fans celebrated them, but when they played "The Trooper" and raised the British flag there was a nationalistic uproar in the masses! Thousands screamed "Maradona" (to say Argentina has the better soccer player!) and "Malvinas" (Spanish name for the Falkland Islands, which are still like a knife in the heart of every Argentine, because the British still have them!). This show will may be overthrow MAIDEN from their Metal throne in Argentina! End of 2001 was also the "Festival Metalico de Mercosur" (Mercosur is the economical union of Argentina, Brazi and Uruguay), with ANGRA; JEZABEL; LÖRIHEN; BETO VAZQUEZ and many more.

In the 90s more and more bands released their albums independently. It became more and more like a wave. May be we can call this time the NODMA (Nueva Ola De Metal Argentino - New Wave Of Argentine Metal)! This business was getting very popular, but the bands had much more problems doing it, than the people in the north. Everything was very expensive, and many people are poor. There is a newer label called "Nems", that gave many of the good new bands a contract, but the economy was so crazy that new CDs from labels costed 20$ or more and independent 15$ in the shops. So some bands did even better by selling their stuff independently, but it was a big step for them, till they had the money together to release it. The 1 : 1 exchange rate to the US $ destroyed the whole economy, as imports were so cheap and easy. But the time had to come, when this whole artifical system would crumble! And this was the case in December 2001, when the economy collapsed and the Peso lost 3 quarters of his value! This had a big effect also to the Argentine Metal scene! As there is no home industry for instruments, and even for the chemical ingredients to make CDs, this all cost now 4 times as much! For foreign people are now all CDs which were made before the crash much cheaper (or better said internationally "normal"), but all new made albums are more expensive again! For local people most CDs are now too expensive, and imported ones almost impossible to afford! To release a new album now is an adventure, as it is very expensive, and nobody knows if they will get back some money from it! The market for magazines totally broken down, all Metal magazines which were sold at the news stands stopped. How the future would be, is absolutely open, and the country slips through the time in the last years, with no improvement, and may be it will become even worse!!
But there are still some examples, that the scene can not be destroyed! Some old bands like RATA BLANCA; MALON and ALAKRAN are together again and release new albums. There are still a lot of concerts going on. One of the geatest new happenings are the "Cumbre de Metal" festivals, which are organized by the old legend Pocho Metalico With some international help there was a CD release of the old album of BLOKE! There will be also LP and CD releases of old material from DHAK; RETROSATAN; EL DRAGON; LAS BRUJAS and more by the Brazilian "Dies Irae" label
But the status in the more remote areas of Argentina, and the poor areas of the cities is still very bad! There is no hope, and some people are even starving in this once rich country! Because of this there are now regularely benefiz concerts to collect food! You do not pay for the concerts, but donate 1 Kilo of food to see the show (see big flyer above, at the end of the German sction)! The food is then distributed to the poor! But as if this constant crisis is not enough, there are sometimes natural catastrophes on top of it! In Santa Fe in the North live the may be most fanatic Metal fans in Argentina, which had always problems to geht the money together for the most simple things! But now in April 2003 they were struck by a big flood which went through the middle of the city, killed people and destroyed most of the town! Also most of the Metaleros lost all their instruments, gear and music! The "Metalica" fanzine asked the Metal brothers to donate CDs, shirts and other Metal stuff, right like the slogan: ".... a Metal fan can live without food, but not without his music"!!
In 2004 METALLICA disappointed their fans in Argentina very much. They sold 60 000 tickets for some shows, and then canecelled! IRON MAIDEN played again too, but they let the british flag home, and there were no fan protests again!
In December 2004 followed the next catastrophy! At a concert of the Rock band LOS CALLEJEROS happened a big fire with around 200 dead fans!!! I saw my self some crazy guys using at concerts the so called "Bengal fires" (which are normally used at sea, if your ship is in distress)! These sticks develope a big flame and lots of smoke after you start them! So, at this concert somebody lightened the roof of the hall! But most desastrous was, that the emergency exits were all blocked! This was common in Argentina, as all the young people who have no money for concerts specialized in breaking those doors from the outside and storm in big groups into the halls and clubs! The owners later started to block the doors completely, and the authorities ignored it! But after the accident those authorities tried to distract people from their failures and show their power, and forbade completely all concerts, ...even Tango!! So, the whole music scene in Buenos Aires died completely, as every club hat to be "proofed", which took them monthes! In the same time they forbade a lot of other "semi legal" actions, like the Sunday market at Parque Centenario (where also a lot of bootlegs were sold)! A lot of bands worried if the would survive the total ban of concerts, and how long this would go on! Since March 2005 there are again concerts. But many small clubs stayed still closed, and the few opened clubs and bigger venues took advantage of the situation and raised the entrence fees! Now it is for even more fans impossible to pay for the concerts! The prices for international bands are anyway outragious, and the around 70 Pesos for such happenings are for many normal workers half a moths payment!
In February 2005 died also Pappo Napolitano in a car accident! He was the biggest Rock legend of Argentina, founder and guitar player of RIFF (und many more bands)!
The Metal scene is very active, and needs your help now even more than in the past! It was always very hard for the bands to sell their stuff outside the country. In the neighboring countries the extreme Metal rules, and MTV tries to convince them that all this trendy shit is cool. So I try to promote these guys, and help them to sell their stuff in other countries. Sadly enough, it is not possible to send money by mail to them, as most of it would be stolen, and nobody speaks English. I organized the first big import of CDs for a mailorder in Germany, and hope he will import more. I opened now a shop section in this page,where I offer the widest selection of Latin American Metal in the world. So please help the isolated Metal Gauchos from Argentina and buy their real good stuff. This report will tell you which music each band plays and help you to decide which one you would like. The old vinyl stuff is getting rarer every year, and is now almost impossible to find! When it appears on the sales lists of dealers it is very expensive, and for used stuff the prices are still in Dollar!

I don`t mention very soft bands like ALIANZA; LA TORRE; JAF; TARZEN and others, and also no extreme ones like ESCABIOS; VREDE; VIBRION; KARMA and more. From some bands like RIFF and HERMETICA exist more live stuff, that I also don`t mention.

METAL ARGENTINO

El conocimiento total que se tiene de el Metal en Argentina, se puede considerar, un capitulo triste en la historia del Metal. Alrededor del mundo, los fanaticos del Metal se han encontrado con que la musica que aman esta dejando de ser popular o muriendo. Solo en Alemania y Grecia se puede decir que la escena esta en buena condicion, pero incluso los Metal maniacos, aqui dicen que los dias de antes eran mejor. Pero aqui esta este pais, Argentina, con una escena muy activa, donde el buen Metal mas tradicional reina, y mas nadie en los otros paises lo sabe. En un punto ellos estan incluso por delante de nosotros, y es por el entusiasmo de los jovenes. Aqui en Europa, la mayoria de los Metaleros sobrepasan los 25 años de edad y muchos los 30. Alla la mayoria tienen entre 15 y 18 años, y muy dedicados al Metal tradicional. El "Death", "Grind", "Alternative" y toda esa mierda esta mas en un estado subterraneo(underground), y las bandas que tienen exito tocan por lo general Metal / Heavy o Thrash. Otra diferencia muy notable es que la gran mayoria de estas bandas hacen sus canciones en su lengua natal, Español. Casi nadie en este pais habla Ingles, incluyendo a los musicos. Las letras son muy importantes alla, las bandas son criticadas por sus letras incluso si su musica es muy buena. En los conciertos es un placer ver a los mas jovenes en el "Mosh" y cantandocada letra con la banda. Hasta las letras de alguna banda que todavia esta "underground" son cantadas y conocidas por los chicos que las cantan junto con la banda. La juventud Metalera Argentina hasta se sabe viejos himnos del Metal de estas bandas heroicas como V8, las cuales se escribieron 20 años atras, y son mas viejas que los propios fans. El tipico Metal Aleman a lo HELLOWEEN es mas popular, y se conocen hasta la mas extraña y menos reconocida banda de Alemania. Muchas bandas Alemanas o con sonido al Metal Aleman son reproducidas por disqueras Argentinas. De los Estados Unidos solo se conocen los grandes nombres dentro del genero. Muy extraño es, que el Metal de España, la madre de su lengua, nada es conocido. En los viejos tiempos se le dio licencia a muchas bandas de España, y BARON ROJO estuvo de gira por el pais un sin numero de veces. De las tremendas bandas nuevas como TIERRA SANTA; AVALANCH; SARATOGA; AZRAEL y otras, no conocen nada. Los Argentinos no son el tipico Latino Americano, la mayoria se sienten y se ven Europeos. Tienen muchas raices Italianas y de otros paises Europeos. La escena de Metal se concentra especialmente en la ciudad de 10 millones de habitantes llamada Buenos Aires (la capital) esta gran concentracion de gente, trafico loco, contaminacion, y la criminalidad se convierta en el ambiente de donde nacen toneladas de bandas de Metal. En las afueras de la ciudad tambien hay bandas de Metal y hasta bastante al Sur se encuentran chicos con los cabellos largos, pero para ninguna banda fuera de Buenos Aires es posible grabar una produccion con alguna disquera.

LA HISTORIA

La historia del Metal pesado empieza en los 70s. Para esta tiempo tienen buenas bandas de Rock locales como VOX DEI, PESCADOS RABIOSOS, PAPPOS BLUES POLIFEMO y otros. El pais es controlado por una dictadura militar que odia el Rock y el pelo largo. Al principio de los 80s los primeros sonidos de Metal llegan al pais, se graban discos, y el radio y television pasan grupos internacionales de Rock. El show musica "Prohibida para mayores" pasa videos de AC/DC; KISS: VAN HALEN y otros. los discos Argentinos de bandas internacionales vienen con los titulos traducidos al Español (por que hay una ley que lo ordena ,para ese tiempo) lo que los hacia interesante para los coleccionistas. Por ejemplo, "The number of the beast" era -El numero de la bestia- y "Love gun " - "Revolver de amor"-!!!! 1981, sale el primer disco de Hard Rock Argentino por la banda RIFF y en el 1982 el segundo de la misma. Para este tiempo las relaciones con Inglaterra eran de tensiony en el 82 explota una guerra en las Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands). En el pais explota una propaganda en contra de los "hippies" communistas y subversivos, mal momento para los Metaleros de pelo largo!!!!. Cuando el regimen pierde la guerra y se perdieron 600 vidas, los dictadores se volvieron locos. El cambio a la democracia no represento mucho para la gente, y se seguia la propaganda en contra del Rock y todo lo Ingles. En 1983 toco VAN HALEN ,pero solo por que dijeron queeran Holandeses!!!! cuando KISS intento tocar en el mismo año hubo una propaganda tremenda en contra de estos "adictos y homosexuales Ingleses" (auque son americanos) y una organizacion terrorista exploto un carro bomba y trato de poner una en el campo donde se daria el concierto, y KISS tuvo que cancelar la fecha. BARON ROJO de España toco poco despues sin ningun problema. En el 83 hubo un gran festival con RIFF en el estadio ferrocarril. Despues de la frustracion con la baja economica y politica de pais y despues de que RIFF declarara que no usarian mas cadenas y cuero y que usarian mas teclados en sus composiciones, estallo un motin en el que hasta se treparon a la tarima y destruyeron el equipo.!!! Esta fue el fin del festival y de RIFF que se separaron despues de esto. En la prensa hubo un gran grito en contra de "estos grupos de sucios vagos y adictos a las drogas en los conciertos de Rock" Pero hubo una banda que llenaba la descripcion a perfeccion: V8 produce en el 83 el primer disco de verdadero Metal en Argentina, "luchando por el Metal", que tiene los himnos de Metal eterno en Argentina "Brigadas Metalicas" y "Destruccion". Ese mismo año sale al aire el primer show de Metal en la radio "cuero pesado". Las primeras tiendas especialisadas en Metal abren y las en las barras pasan videos de metal. Los precios de los discos importados eran muy altos y por eso un gran negocio de grabaciones piratas surge. Todavia existe un mercado especial para la pirateria y venta de discos todos los Domingos en el Parque Rivadavia. Salio el magazine "Metal" y se dieron mas y mas festivales.

En 1984/85 solo existio un pequeño grupo de bandas que duraron poco tiempo. Los verdaderamente buenos discos de, BLOKE, THOR, HELLION y BUNKER estan ahora practicamente olvidados. La escean en este tiempo (84-85) quizas era todavia muy pequeña, y las bandas no podian vender lo suficiente para sobrevivir. Estos discos son muy raros hoy en dia ,y se venden generalmente en KCT y muy poco en vinylo, ademas los Argentinos no tratan muy bien sus discos, asi que muchos de los que puedas encontrar los encontraras en muy mala condicion! Estas 4 bandas tocaron en el evento "Festival de Primavera", en 1984 donde tambien toco V8, DHAK, HANGAR y otros. V8 saca en el 84 su segunda produccion y sube hasta el "Olimpio del Metal"!!!.El mega-festival "Rock in Rio" en el 85 dejo impresionados a los Argentinos, pero los años proximos no seran buenos para el verdadero Metal. V8 se separan despues de su tercer disco, y una ola de "Punk", "Raggae", y "Ska" tomam el mercado. Solo bandas comerciales "Poser" tiene oportunidades y graban discos, y las grabaciones de VITICO, TARZEN, LA TORRE, JAF, CHYCLE y muchos mas son producidos. La unica buena banda del momento, ALAKRAN, tiene que esperar hasta el 1989 para poder lanzar su grabacion.
Despues del 88 las cosas para el Metal van mejorando lentamente y los debuts de RATA BLANCA y KAMIKAZE salen. Ambos se convierten en grandes actos, y RATA BLANCA se convierte en la mas grande banda de "Hard Rock" en la historia de ARGENTINA. En ese momento surge una hiper-inflacion en el pais (1989 30000%!!!). Los precios crecen varias veces al dia y mientras los musicos, magazines, y casas disqueras tengan su dinero, nada mas importa. En 1989 el trono vacio del Metal se vuelve a ocupar. El bajista de V8 junto a otros musicos forman HERMETICA y su primer disco exploto en la escena como una bomba. La escena cogio un buen empujon y se celebraron mas y mas conciertos y festivales. En 1990 se forman dos nuevas bandas LETHAL y HORCAS (siendo esta la mejor de las dos). Hasta el viejo RIFF se reune,pero se ha perdido el interes en el viejo estilo de hard rock. RATA BLANCA se gana el primer disco de oro para una banda argentina en 1990 y llena un estadio a capacidad. Despues de tocar en un club de baile donde se tocaba solo musica tropical, ya se conocieron en todas partes. Vendieron muchisimo,pero mucha de la gente solo se interesaba en su tema mas suave "Mujer Amante". Y con esta movida perdieron muchos de sus fanaticos que eran Metal de verdad. Hasta HERMETICA gano un disco de oro con su segunda produccion. La nueva banda EL DRAGON saca su primer disco con una interesante mezcla de power metal con teclados.

El principiode los 90 trajo el "Grunge" y otras olas mas progresivas. Con este estilo la banda A.N.I.M.A.L. se hace muy conocida atravez de Latinoamerica. 1992 es el año del final de los LPs en Argentina. Fue como si hubieran volado la unica factoria de discos del pais. Ya no hay ediciones de coleccionistas ni nada por el estilo. Tambien significo el final de aquellos interesantes discos de bandas internacionales con produccion de prensa argentina, y la informacion en los CDs se escribe en ingles como en todos lados. Muchas bandas internacionales empiesan a tocar ,y se les hace mas dificil a las bandas locales.Se realiza el album doble "Metal Argentino" y el primer disco de TREN LOCO. En 1993 se realiza el primer verdadero show de Metal para la television "Much Music, Power 30" (hasta el 97) y hasta las bandas que solo tenian demos grababan videos. En este mismo año salen las primeras producciones de LOGOS y NEPAL y se venden bien. En 1994 los dioses del Metal HERMETICA dicen adios, pero de sus senizas en el 1995 nacen dos tremendas bandas ALMAFUERTE y MALON. En 1996 hubo una gran exibicion llamada "30 AÑOS DE ROCK EN ARGENTINA" donde cada disco estuvo en exibicion y otras cosas de las bandas (no me imagino una exibicion como esta en otros paises). Desde hace algunos años se ahce un festival anual llamado "Metal Rock" con solo bandas locales, mas de 10 en dos dias, esto ayuda grandemente a la escena. Despues del rompimiento de RATA BLANCA al final de los 90s, horcas se convierte en la banda mas popular, pero cuando su lider Osvaldo Civile se suicida IMPERIO toma su lugar (IMPERIO se separo recientemente). Pero RATA BLANCA ha vuelto en el 2000 y sigue siendo la primera banda de ARGENTINA. Ya estuvieron de gira de norte a sur de los E.U hasta Argentina y con mucho exito. En enero del 2001 IRON MAIDEN toco en Argentina en frente de 35000 fanaticos, esta es la banda mas popular en el pais y los fanaticos los celebraron, pero cuando tocaron "The Trooper" y levantaron la bandera britanica hubo un descontento y un grito nacionalista en el publico!!! Muchos gritaron ¡¡¡¡Maradona!!!!(diciendo con esto que Argentina tiene el mejor jugador de balonpie) y otros ¡¡¡¡Malvinas!!!!que es como un puñal en el pecho para muchos argentinos ya que todavia estas islas pertenecen a Inglaterra. Esto pudo o puede bajar a IRON MAIDEN dellugar donde los tienen los Argentinos. En fin de 2001 fue tambien el "Festival Metalico de Mercosur" (Mercosur es el unidad economico de Argentina, Brasil y Uruguay), con ANGRA; JEZABEL; LÖRIHEN; BETO VAZQUEZ y mas bandas.

En los 90s mas y mas bandas reproducen sus grabaciones independientemente, esto se ha convertido en una nueva ola, a la que le podriamos llamar NODMA (Nueva Ola De Metal Argentino). Este negocio se esta haciendo cada vez mas popular, pero se les hace mucho mas dificil a las bandas Argentinas que a los del norte. Todo esta carisimo y mucha de la gente es pobre. Hay una nueva casa disquera que se llama "Nems" y tiene contratadas a muchas de las mejores bandas del estilo, pero la economia esta tan alocada, que CDs de la disquera cuestan $20 o mas y los independientes $15 en las tiendas. Por esto muchas bandas optan por vender independientemente sus producciones, pero es un paso muy grande y dificil ya que reunen entre todos el dinero para las producciones. La valuación 1 Peso = 1 Dólar destruyó toda la economía, ya que lo importado era fácil y barato. Pero el tiempo llegó, en el cual todo el sistema artificial se derrumbó! Y este fue el caso de Diciembre del 2001, cuando el sistema colapsó y el Peso perdió 3 cuartos de su valor! Esto tuvo un gran efecto tambien el la escena del Metal! Como no hay industria instrumental, siquiera los ingredientes químicos para hacer CDs, todo eso ahora costa ahora 4 veces mas! Para los extranjeros ahora son todos los CDs los cuales estaban hechos antes de la caida mucho mas barato (o mejor dicho internacionalmente "normal"), pero todos los albunes hechos ahora son mas caros de nuevo! Para los locales ahora los CDs son muy caros, y los importados son imposibles de pagar! Para realizar un nuevo album es una aventura, ya q es tan caro, y nadie sabe si tendran algo de el dinero de nuevo!
El Mercado de las revistas fue totalmente quebrado, todas las revistas Metaleras que eran vendidas pararon! Como el futuro será, fue absolutamente abierto, y despues algunos años, siempre quizá sea peor!! Pero hay algunos ejemplos que demuestran que la escena no puede ser destruida! Algunas viejas bandas como RATA BLANCA, MALON y ALAKRAN estan unidas de nuevo y sacando discos. Tocan muchos conciertos todavía. Uno de los mejores eventos son la "Cumbre de Metal", organizadas por la vieja leyenda Pocho Metalica. Con ayuda internacional fue un lanzamiento del viejo album de BLOKE! Tambien un LP y lanzamiento de CD de viejo material de DHAK; RETROSATAN; EL DRAGON; LAS BRUJAS y mas por el sello brasilero “Dies Irae”.
Pero el estado en las áreas mas remotas de Argentina y las partes mas pobres de las ciudades estan muy mal! No hay esperanza y alguna gente estan muriendose de hambre en este pais alguna vez rico! Por esto, hay ahora regularmente conciertos a beneficio para recolectar comida! No pagas entrada pero donas 1 kilo de comida para ver el recital! (mirá el volante abajo al final de la sección alemana)! La comida es distribuida a la gente pobre! Pero como si esta constante crisis no fuera suficiente, hay algunas catástrofes naturales! En Santa Fe, al norte, viven alguno de los mas fantásticos fans del Metal en Argentina, que tienen muchos problemas para juntar dinero para las cosas mas simples! Pero en Abril del 2003 quedaron trabados con una enorme inundación la cual fue al medio de la ciudad, mató a gente y destruyó la mayor parte de la ciudad! Tambien la mayoria de los metaleros perdoieron todos los instrumentos, equipos y musica! El fanzine Metalica fue pidiendo a los hermanos donar Cds, remera y cosas metaleras con este slogan: ".....un Metalero puede vivir sin su comida, pero sin su musica"!!

In December 2004 followed the next catastrophy! At a concert of the Punk Rock band LOS CALLEJEROS happened a big fire with around 200 dead fans!!! I saw my self some crazy guys using at concerts the so called "Bengal fires" (which are normally used at sea, if your ship is in distress)! These sticks develope a big flame and lots of smoke after you start them! So, at this concert somebody lightened the roof of the hall! But most desastrous was, that the emergency exits were all blocked! This was common in Argentina, as all the young people who have no money for concerts specialized in breaking those doors from the outside and storm in big groups into the halls and clubs! The owners later started to block the doors completely, and the authorities ignored it! But after the accident those authorities tried to distract people from their failures and show their power, and forbade completely all concerts, ...even Tango!! So, the whole music scene in Buenos Aires died completely, as every club hat to be "proofed", which took them monthes! In the same time they forbade a lot of other "semi legal" actions, like the Sunday market at Parque Centenario (where also a lot of bootlegs were sold)! A lot of bands worried if the would survive the total ban of concerts, and how long this would go on! Since March 2005 there are again concerts. But many small clubs stayed still closed, and the few opened clubs and bigger venues took advantage of the situation and raised the entrence fees! Now it is for even more fans impossible to pay for the concerts! The prices for international bands are anyway outragious, and the around 70 Pesos for such happenings are for many normal workers half a moths payment!

Es muy dificil para las bandas vender su material fuera del pais, en los paises vecinos reina el Metal extremo y MTV convence a los jovenes de que esta mierda es "cool". Por esto yo trato de ayudar a estos grupos a vender su material en otros paises. Es una tristeza que no se les pueda enviar dinero por correo, ya que seguramente sera robado, y como nadie habla Ingles. Asi que por favor ayuden a las bandas gauchas de Argentina y compren sus tremendas producciones de Metal. Esta reporte te ayudara a saber los estilos de los grupos y te ayudara a escoger los que mas te llamen la atencion. Ahora ofreco tambien muchos de estos CDs en mi seccion de "shop"! Los LPs son practicamente imposibles de encontrar y cuando los ves en una lista e ventas estan carisimos, peor ya se estan haciendo reproducciones de en CD, como lo son el de HELLION y BLOKE que son del 84. A mi personalmente me pueden preguntar sobre discos que esten buscando.

No menciono bandas mas suaves como: ALIANZA, LA TORRE, JAF, TARZEN, BRAVO y otras asi como tampoco, las mas extremas como: ESCABIOS, VREDE, VIBRION, KARMA, etc. De bandas como RIFF y HERMETICA existen mas CD en vivo.
